EXPERTISE

Many older people coming online, and trawling through the different pages to find their way about, can be confused by the vast range of subjects available on the internet. Some might even be looking for ways to develop an online business.

They could be retirees - because of "job exporting" or company downsizing - who still have valuable expertise to share.Whatever their former life-style, be it high powered management; consulting; coaching or freelancing for special clients, they may now be seeking a better way to leverage their knowledge.

For others, their focus could be online marketing in general. They understand and enjoy, from life-time experiences, the buzz of launching new initiatives and promoting them. Now they have the opportunity to explore niches that require expertise other than Internet marketing.

But where does that specific expertise come from? Given that most people read very little nowadays and those who do swamp themselves with RSS news feeds, the answer could be to read books. There’s a whole world of expertise in books to be made your own.

An expression drummed into my head was "Look, read and inwardly digest" so by simply reading one book on a particular subject you’ll probably know more than the vast majority of the population about anything. Make that three or four books on the same subject and you could become an actual expert!

Right now, the real opportunity in interactive learning environments is in shifting the format and context of content away from text and physical delivery. Teaching a training course can be as easy as understanding enough about a topic to know what needs to be taught, and inviting people to learn. When you think about it, you don’t need to be an expert on anything other than the how and why of content and simply borrow the expertise of others.

More and more books than ever before are available to you this minute at the click of the mouse. The advantage you’ll have just by understanding the methodologies and business models - tied to interactive learning environments - will open an entire world of opportunities everywhere you look.

Why? Because you have made yourself an expert on the subject.
